I’m new to White Rock Yoga – what will I need when I arrive?

  • Try to arrive about 10-15 minutes before class so we can meet you and give you a quick tour of the space.
  • Please tell your teacher if you have an old or new injury, or any other condition we need to know about to make your yoga practice safe and effective.
  • We provide all props and mats you’ll need, free of charge, and of course you’re most welcome bring your own.
  • Your teacher will let you know what props you need for each class.
  • Wear comfortable “work-out” clothing, nothing too baggy, please, so instructors can see your alignment.
  • All classes are attended in bare feet; there’s space for your shoes outside the studio.
  • You may leave clothes, coats and shoes under the benches and on the hooks in the hallway, but bring valuables into the practice space with you. There are cubbies for wallets/keys/cell phones.
  • Please silence and de-vibrate your cell phone.

What if I’ve NEVER taken a yoga class? You are welcome to experience your first yoga class with us. Depending on your general level of fitness, you can take any mixed level class. If you aren’t sure which class to take, consider getting the New Student Discovery Pass and have a consultation with one of our teachers. You can always call us and we can help you select the best class for you. See the FAQ for “New to White Rock Yoga” above.

What happens if I arrive late and the class has already started? We know that life (and other humans) sometimes tangle our best intentions so don’t fret if you are late to class. If you arrive when the teacher has begun the centering, please slip in the door as quietly as possible and sit down near the door so you won’t disturb the other students and you can still participate in the centering meditation. If you prefer, you can wait outside the door during the centering. When the centering is over and the class begins to move, you can get you mat and props situated.

Our philosophy is that It doesn’t matter how late you are, just don’t be late for savasana, the final relaxation!

Does White Rock Yoga close for holidays? Yes & No. We close for some major holidays – such as 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day (but we offer a special Thanksgiving Day and New Year’s Day Yoga practice, a great way to practice gratitude, start the new year, and/or get away from or bring visiting family), We sometimes run a reduced or special class schedule on a holiday or during holiday seasons, like the days around Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Years. Special schedules will be available on the schedule page and posted on our White Rock Yoga FaceBook page.

How does White Rock Yoga handle inclement weather? If your class or workshop is cancelled due to bad weather, you’ll find cancellation messages posted on our home page, and our Facebook page – 90 minutes before start time (or 5:30am for all pre-8am classes). If your pass is due to run out within 3 days of a weather closing we will extend your pass.

Does White Rock Yoga ever rent out the studio? Yes, we are willing to discuss renting the studio during times when there are no classes (e.g. weekend afternoons, weekend evenings, some weekday mornings and afternoons). Together we will decide if your event and our studio is a good match on a case-by-case basis. Please talk with one of our teachers about your needs.
